Taking My Vitamins

As a child, I was given my daily vitamins by my dad. He always bought us the dry, chalky Flintstones vitamins; I remember despising when I received a grape-flavored Wilma and begging my sister to trade with me.

Since becoming responsible for my own health, I have found it difficult to remember or desire to take my multivitamins. I prefer the taste of chewy vitamins, of course, but the sugar sends waves of pain through my jaw when they inevitably get stuck between my teeth. One-a-day pills are often gargantuan, and they begin to dissolve as soon as they touch the back of your tongue, leaching the bitter contents onto your taste buds. I struggled to commit to a single kind of vitamin for years due to these omnipresent issues.

I am iron deficient, according to the American Red Cross (I need to write an article about this), so I decided to try another brand of vitamins upon moving to Fayetteville. I decided upon the Whole Foods Brand 365 Women’s One a Day Vegan Multivitamin with Iron. These suckers are of moderate size, and only having to take one per day allows me to take them every night before bed. Be it the iron in the pills or some sort of placebo effect, I enjoy taking them because they give me more energy. There have been many other factors about my lifestyle that I’ve altered since moving to Arkansas, but I want to give the multivitamins some credit because at the very least I’m giving my body more nutrients than it was previously receiving.

The 365 Vegetarian Women’s Multi with Iron, my pride and joy

So, that’s the post. I am proud of myself for finally committing to a multivitamin. I only have about one-fourth of my current bottle left, and I can’t wait to go to Whole Foods and stock up before I leave for Colorado. Here’s to not giving up- there is a multivitamin out there for everyone 🙂
